Manager Plant Operations

General Summary
Oversee manufacturing operations and directly supervise work of all plant department Managers. Work closely with the Senior Plant Manger to direct and manage the day to day operation of the facility. Coordinate the activities of the manufacturing facilities of the plant to ensure customer orders are received; scheduled, produced and shipped so as to safely and effectively utilize plant capacities and optimize manufacturing costs and quality.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide sound administrative direction of subordinate departments including Engineering, Quality Assurance, Financial/Accounting, Distribution, Operations, Production, Purchasing, HR and others to ensure that objectives and goals are met and that employees are managed effectively
  • Responsible and accountable for Production Facilities quality compliance, inventory control, efficiencies ? with respect to labor, overhead, packaging and ingredients, operational budget, and profit and loss statements
  • Coach and counsel subordinate managers without ?over managing? or ?micromanaging? their decisions.? Works with this focus to define plant goals and plans to meet these goals with this group.?
  • Create, develop and sustain a ?can-do? climate and high levels of frequent communication, cooperation, rewards, training and mutual support among departments.
  • Demonstrate an adequate understanding of plant machinery; equipment; processing; blending; extraction; shelf-stable products, quality, and/or other requisite technical knowledge to engage in overall direction, meaningful conversation across functions, and leadership of managers across the plant.
  • Demonstrate clear integrity and a sense of ethics and responsibility to the plant and its employees on a daily basis, serving as a model for others.
  • Manage relationships with neighbors, community leaders and regulatory agencies
  • Respond effectively and to work cross-functionally with in the organization particularly with other plants and corporate leadership.
  • Coordinates production, distribution, warehousing and sales in accordance with the policies and procedures established by the Company.?
  • Ability to work successfully with major customers, including national customers, in major food chains across the US.?
  • Effectively partnership with Human Resources and others in a union environment
  • Perform in a variety of capacities related to employment decisions throughout the employment life cycle.? i.e. hiring, firing, performance evaluation, salary recommendations, employee relations issues as appropriate etc.
  • Understand and manage as appropriate capital project expenditures or/or the implementation of capital projects
  • Effectively implement, improve and reinforce the company?s environmental health and safety programs and product food safety programs.
  • Own respective QMS standard and execute all processes, including all documentation specification requirements.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


A.??????? Education and Experience:

  • College Degree and or Equivalent Experience required ? preferable in engineering, business, food science or related field
  • 12-15 years operational and management experience in food production environment
  • Three years UHT dairy processing experience a plus
  • 7-10 years experience as a? Plant Manager/General Manager
  • Familiar with how basic plant equipment functions (pumps, hydraulics, electricity, boiler, compressors, chillers etc.)
  • Prior consumer packaging experience preferred
  • Planning, scheduling and project management experience necessary
  • Food Technology


B.??????? Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize plant operations in light of multiple priorities and conflicting demands.
  • Strong knowledge of GMP?s - to include regulations which govern food products
  • Familiar with TQM and or statistical process control concepts
  • Knowledge of safety policies and? procedures regarding chemicals, equipment/machinery
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Good math skills.
  • Excellent negotiation skills. - including an ability to understand sensitive situations

WORKING ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL DEMANDS:


Physical Demands:?


Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator and other office equipment.? Requires normal range of hearing and vision to record, prepare and communicate appropriate reports. Requires lifting up to 75 pounds on occasion.? Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting, manual and finger dexterity, bending, stretching, and stooping. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.


Mental Demands:?


Must understand vague and implicit instructions, and react favorably in all work situations. Must be mentally adaptable and flexible in dealing with a variety of people.? Must be able to communicate providing verbal feedback in a professional manner. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
